Our testers were thoroughly impressed with the ride quality of the Ride1Up Turris XR. Its 27.5 x 2.4″ Kenda tires and 100mm suspension fork deliver a stable and confident feel, outperforming several higher-priced models. The powerful 750W hub motor propels this Class 2-3 e-bike to 20 mph in just 8.4 seconds using only the throttle, and it effortlessly reaches 28 mph with any of the five pedal assist modes. The hydroformed aluminum frame neatly integrates a locking 614Wh battery, which is removable for convenient off-bike charging or to reduce weight during transportation. In our range test, the Turris covered 22.1 miles on throttle power alone, climbing over 1200 feet. While slightly less than the Aventon Level Step-Thru‘s 28.4 miles, it’s important to note that our range tests are conducted without any pedaling, so real-world range is likely much greater.

The larger diameter wheels and durable knobby tires of the Turris provide a smooth ride and excellent vibration damping and traction. Despite its stability, testers found the bike to be agile and enjoyable to ride. While less adjustable than the Ride1Up 700-Series, the Turris’s general geometry and quality touchpoints were well-received by our testers. Available in both step-thru (5’1″-6’2″) and step-over (5’6″-6’4″) frames, the step-thru model offers easy mounting and dismounting and features backswept handlebars, making it ideal for seniors or riders seeking a more relaxed riding posture. The Turris XR comes equipped with full fenders, a headlight, and a kickstand. We found its assembly process significantly easier than the Ride1Up 700-Series. While not as relaxed as the Cafe Cruiser, the Turris provides an upright riding position with excellent visibility. Weighing just under 61 pounds, it doesn’t feel overly sporty, but its 750W motor easily handles riders up to its 300-pound weight limit. For those prioritizing range, the 700-Series with its 720Wh battery offers approximately 10.3 additional miles of range. Another exceptional value option, suitable for trunk transport due to its folding capability, is the Lectric XP 3.0. Despite its folding frame, the XP 3.0 offers surprising stability and ride quality, exceeding expectations for its price. It achieved a throttle-only range of 24.5 miles in our tests. It provides a fun and convenient way to minimize car usage. If budget is a major factor, the Aventon Abound or Lectric XPedition offer more affordable alternatives, albeit slightly longer in length and also rolling on 20″ wheels.

Long-Term Thoughts: The Haul ST’s fun and utility led us to keep it for long-term use. After 1100 miles, we replaced the battery charger under warranty, pedals (due to breakage), and fixed a flat tire. Overall, we love the bike and use it frequently for commuting and cargo hauling. We thoroughly enjoyed testing the original hardtail Ride1Up Revv 1, but the Ride1Up Revv 1 FS surpasses it with enhanced features and full suspension. This moped-style e-bike impressed us with its power, comfort, and practical features. A massive 1040 Wh battery delivered a class-leading 37.17 miles in our range test. Its 52V electrical system and 1000W hub motor provide remarkable power and acceleration, especially for a bike weighing almost 97 pounds.

Ride1Up’s Multi-Class Speed System allows adjustable output for different terrains and regulations. Registering the bike unlocks an off-road mode for even higher performance on private property. While the Super73 S2 offers an off-road mode, it doesn’t match the Revv 1 FS in power and speed.

Featuring 50mm rear suspension and a 120mm suspension fork, it’s significantly more comfortable than the hardtail Ride1up Revv 1. Upright handlebars and a long, comfortable seat enhance comfort on rough terrain. Full fenders, lights, turn signals, and a horn add urban utility and a moped-like feel. The clear 3.5″ central display was highly rated, providing comprehensive ride data day and night, unlike the smaller screen on the Super73.

Assembly is simplified with a box that doubles as a support stand. Tools, instructions, and an assembly video are included. While not optimized for pedaling efficiency, its nearly 40-mile throttle range minimizes this concern. A second battery can be added to double the range for adventurous riders. While its classification is debatable, the Revv 1 FS earned our Editor’s Choice award for class 3 ebikes due to its exceptional performance in testing. Testers loved it for errands and trail exploration, but its weight may complicate transportation, as few bike racks can support its 100-pound weight.

The Turbo Levo Comp is a full-power all-mountain trail bike featuring 150mm of FSR rear travel and a 160mm fork. The latest Turbo 2.2 motor system feels more refined than previous versions, delivering 90Nm of torque for conquering challenging climbs. Despite strong competition in the full-power e-bike market, Specialized’s investment in innovation is evident in its ride quality and motor integration. While specs might appear similar to competitors on paper, testers were consistently impressed by the Levo’s Brose motor power delivery. At 2.98 kg, it’s slightly heavier than Shimano’s EP801, but this weight is negligible on a 51 lb, 3 oz bike. The Levo motor provides 5Nm more torque, but its modulation and responsiveness are more noticeable advantages. Testers unanimously praised the Levo’s ride quality as “more natural,” “more balanced,” and “more like a regular trail bike.”

While all full-power e-mountain bikes are heavy and powerful, the Levo masks its mass better than competitors. In range testing, it covered 33.1 miles on its 700Wh battery, less than the Canyon Spectral:ON with its 900Wh battery (range winner at 5.4 miles more), but better than other tested bikes. Adjustable geometry and mixed wheels enhance customization. Adjustable headtube angle and bottom bracket height allow quick adaptation to different riding styles and terrains. Its downhill performance ranked highest in our tests, reflecting its superior geometry and handling, not just its electric assist. Power assist cuts out at 20mph, but downhill speeds typically exceed this. Lead tester Joshua Hutchens noted, “The low center of gravity and well-balanced kinematics on this bike give it the best handling.

Despite being a top electric mountain bike, the Levo Comp Alloy has minor drawbacks. SRAM Code R hydraulic disc brakes are effective but lack the adjustability of Code RSC brakes on the Santa Cruz Heckler. While e-bike-specific forks with stiffer steerer tubes are common due to increased weight, this model uses a standard Fox 36 Rhythm fork. The base model Levo display is a basic LED readout showing battery level and ride mode. Higher-end models feature the Mastermind TCU with customizable color graphics and micro-tune options.

Overall, the Turbo Levo Comp is a clear winner and benchmark for full-power electric mountain bikes, offering the best value in full suspension e-bikes. Only the Ari Wire Peak 2.0 is significantly cheaper but scored lower overall.

Long-Term Thoughts: We own and frequently ride several Levos and are impressed with the frame adjustability and ride quality, considering Specialized a leader in this segment. While we’ve had to replace motors under warranty, they seem to be improving in quietness and reliability. Faults, especially with the TCU and motors, have been promptly addressed under warranty.

In our range test, its 708Wh battery powered our tester for 30.1 miles with 5980 feet of vertical climbing on a single charge. Aventon’s A100 motor delivers 100 Nm of torque, impressing testers with its power—the most powerful motor we’ve tested to date.

This aluminum 29er features 130mm of non-adjustable coil-sprung front travel and agreeable, slightly conservative geometry (66.5/74.5 headtube/seattube angles). Offered in 4 sizes, with the smallest using 27.5 wheels, the Ramblas is an accessible electric mountain bike for most riders (down to 5′ 1″).

Like other alloy hardtails, frame comfort is basic, and wheels are not tubeless-compatible, making it less ideal for aggressive riding or technical terrain. However, its ample power, front and rear lights, and kickstand add versatility for non-mountain biking uses. Tester Chris McNamara noted, “No other E-MTB so easily doubles as a daily commuter.” At 54 lbs, it’s only slightly lighter than the full-suspension Ari Wire Peak 2.0, but the motor effectively compensates for its weight. Most e-bikes offer a 20-30 mile range, determined by battery size and motor power, plus rider weight, terrain, and assist level. Rider pedaling significantly extends range. Batteries are measured in Watt-hours (Wh); higher Wh means more storage and range but also increased weight.

Motors range from 250W to 750W. Larger motors offer more torque, faster acceleration, and higher speeds. Hub-drive motors, located in wheel centers (usually rear), are more affordable, easier to maintain, and don’t wear bike components, but single-gear ratios are less efficient, and tire changes are harder. Mid-drive motors, located centrally near the pedal crank, are pricier but more refined, using bike gears for efficiency and better weight balance, typically found on higher-end e-bikes.
