For Stanford students, faculty, residents, and Bay Area cyclists, the Stanford Bike Shop stands out as the premier destination for all bicycle service and repair needs. Renowned for our commitment to service and expertise, we draw customers from across the Bay Area, not just Stanford itself. We service more bikes than any other shop in Santa Clara and San Mateo County, from comfortable cruisers to professional road bikes, tandems, and folding models.
Comprehensive Bike Repair Services at Your Stanford Bike Shop
At Stanford Bike Shop, we prioritize getting you back on the road or trail as quickly and smoothly as possible. We understand the importance of your bike in your daily life, whether for commuting, recreation, or serious cycling. That’s why we offer same-day and next-day service options to minimize downtime. Need to stay mobile while your bike is in the shop? We provide a free loaner bike for tune-ups, subject to availability, ensuring you’re not left stranded. Moreover, we pride ourselves on offering competitive rates, often lower than other bike shops in the local area. Unlike shops that focus heavily on sales, our priority is service. We maintain a dedicated team of mechanics, with a ratio of 3 mechanics for every salesperson, ensuring focused attention on your bike’s needs. We specialize in optimizing your bike’s performance, ensuring it rides at its absolute best.
Popular services at Stanford Bike Shop include:
Full Tune-Up
Our comprehensive full tune-up service, priced between $110 and $150, is ideal for maintaining high-end bikes, commuter bikes, or bikes requiring part replacements. This service includes a free loaner bike (subject to availability) and encompasses front and rear brake/shift cable lubrication and adjustment, minor front and rear wheel truing, hub and bottom bracket adjustment, and a basic frame cleaning. Please note that the cost of any necessary parts and the labor for their installation are additional, though installation labor is generally offered at a discounted rate.
Flat Tire Repair
Dealing with a flat tire is never convenient. At Stanford Bike Shop, our flat repair service is efficient and affordable. For $20 per flat (plus the cost of a new tube and/or tire), we handle the tube or tire change, lubricate your chain, and inflate both tires to the correct pressure. We stock regular tubes ($8.50), thick tubes ($12.50), basic tires ($25-$30), and specialty tires ($30-$60). For most campus bikes, we recommend thick tubes to reduce the likelihood of future flats and basic tires as a cost-effective solution.
Brake Service
Properly functioning brakes are paramount for safety. Our brake service, priced at $30 per brake ($35 for disc brakes), includes cable oiling and adjustment, along with pivot lubrication. Additional charges may apply if brake pads or cables require replacement.
Derailleur Service
Smooth and accurate shifting is crucial for an enjoyable ride. Our derailleur service, at $30 per derailleur, covers adjustment and lubrication. If cable and housing replacement is needed, the labor remains $30, plus the cost of parts. Alignment of a bent derailleur incurs an additional labor cost of $15-$20.
Wheel Truing
A wobbly wheel can affect your bike’s performance and safety. Our wheel truing service ranges from $30 to $50 per wheel, depending on the severity of the damage and the time required for straightening. Spokes and other necessary parts are additional costs.
New Bike Assembly & Reassembly
Purchased a new bike online or need your bike reassembled after shipping? We offer professional new bike assembly starting at $125 labor. For bikes brought in or shipped to us for reassembly and tune-up, our service starts at $150 labor.
