Goodwill’s 2025 Donation Guide: Bikes and Other Acceptable Items
Goodwill appreciates donations of items in good, working condition. Before donating, please ensure your items are clean, safe, and suitable for resale. Remember, your donations are tax-deductible, and every contribution supports valuable community programs.
Appliances, Small: From irons to coffee makers, small appliances are welcome.
Area Rugs: Give your gently used area rugs a new home.
Bicycles: Donate your bicycles! All types of bikes, from kids’ bikes to adult road bikes, are accepted and highly appreciated. Donating bikes is a wonderful way to support your community and promote cycling.
Books: Share your love of reading by donating books of all genres.
Cars: Consider donating your car to Goodwill! It’s a significant contribution. Call (866) 829-2918 or donate online at gwnne.org/CarDonation for vehicle donations.
Clothing: Shirts, pants, dresses, and more – your gently used clothing is needed.
Computers, Printers, and Accessories: Donate your old computers and accessories, regardless of their condition. Goodwill can responsibly recycle or refurbish them.
Dishes, Pots, and Pans: Kitchenware in good condition is always useful.
Exercise Equipment, Small: Resistance bands, weights, and other small workout equipment are accepted.
Furniture, Household: Sofas, tables, and chairs can find a new home through Goodwill. (Note: Furniture donations depend on store capacity. Please check with your local store.)
Furniture, Lawn: Lawn furniture donations are also welcome, space permitting. Contact your local Goodwill for details.
Lamps: Working lamps are accepted and appreciated.
Media Items: DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, and other media can be donated.
Shoes: Donate your gently used shoes.
Sports Equipment: Baseballs, basketballs, tennis rackets, and other sports gear are great donations.
Televisions: Only flatscreen TVs in working order are accepted. Please, no CRT TVs.
Tools, Hand: Donate your usable hand tools.
Tools, Lawn and Garden: Lawn and garden tools are also accepted.
Toys: Bring joy to children by donating gently used toys.
Items Goodwill Cannot Accept: Safety and Environmental Considerations
Goodwill prioritizes safety and environmental responsibility. Therefore, there are certain items they cannot accept due to legal restrictions, safety concerns, or disposal costs. Goodwill employees may decline donations that are not clean, in saleable condition, or if handling them poses a risk of injury. Employee safety and preventing vehicle damage during unloading are also key considerations in donation acceptance.
Below is a list of items Goodwill is unable to accept:
Air Conditioners: Due to freon content and disposal regulations.
Ammunition or Weapons: Including BB guns and pellet guns, for safety reasons.
Appliances, Large: Stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, etc., are not accepted due to size and disposal complexities.
Automobile Parts: These are not within Goodwill’s donation program scope.
Baby Equipment: Due to safety standards and liability concerns.
Bed Pillows: For hygiene reasons, used bed pillows cannot be accepted.
Bike Helmets, Used: For safety reasons, used bike helmets are not accepted.
Bunk Beds: Due to safety and assembly complexity.
Chemicals: Household or industrial chemicals pose safety and disposal hazards.
Construction Debris: Goodwill is not equipped to handle construction waste.
Copiers, Large Standing: Due to size and handling limitations.
Exercise Equipment, Large: Treadmills, elliptical machines, etc., are too large for donation drop-off and resale.
Fishing Tackle with Lead, Large Fish Tanks: Lead in fishing tackle and large fish tanks pose environmental and handling concerns. Small fish tanks are acceptable.
Flammable Liquids/Gases: Gasoline, propane, kerosene, etc., are hazardous.
Food: Goodwill is not equipped to handle food donations.
Furniture, Damaged: Unsellable or broken furniture cannot be accepted.
Futons: Due to size and resale challenges.
Hazardous Wastes: Paints, solvents, oils, batteries, and items containing these are prohibited.
Hospital Beds: Medical equipment donations are not accepted.
Hoverboards: Due to safety and liability concerns.
Humidifiers: Due to hygiene and maintenance concerns.
Lightbulbs: Used lightbulbs, including halogen lamps, are not accepted. Only new, boxed lightbulbs are permissible.
Liquids: Lotions, chemicals, and any liquids are generally not accepted due to spillage and contamination risks.
Mattresses, Box Springs, Waterbeds: Due to hygiene and disposal regulations.
Medical Assistive Devices: Wheelchairs and walkers are not accepted.
Pharmaceuticals: Medications cannot be accepted for donation.
Pianos and Organs: Due to size and transportation challenges.
Recalled Items: Items recalled by manufacturers or that do not meet current safety standards are prohibited.
Smoke Detectors: Due to safety and expiration concerns.
Swing Sets: Large and difficult to transport and resell.
Taxidermy of any kind: Not accepted for donation.
Televisions, CRT: Tube-style TVs are not accepted in any condition due to outdated technology and disposal issues.
Vape Accessories: Not accepted for donation.
Venetian Blinds, Used: Used blinds are not accepted; however, new blinds in their original packaging are okay.
Wall-to-Wall Carpeting: Difficult to handle and resell.
