Gratitude for Community Support and McDowell Mountain Cycles
Bob’s Bikes extends heartfelt gratitude to Harry and Diane, the owners of McDowell Mountain Cycles (MMC), for their incredible support in hosting the 7th annual Gran Fondo. For the past four years, MMC has generously sponsored this fantastic event, with all proceeds directly benefiting Bob’s Bikes and our commitment to providing free bikes to children.
This year’s Gran Fondo was particularly special thanks to an anonymous benefactor who pledged to match donations up to $3000. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our community, we successfully met this challenge, raising a total of $6000! We also want to recognize Jaime Brown, the MMC staff, and all the dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly to coordinate the ride and ensure its success.
Milestones Achieved: Over 6,500 Bikes Given Away
In the past year alone, Bob’s Bikes distributed an impressive 1,259 bikes to deserving children throughout Maricopa County. Since our founder, Bob Mandel, started this incredible initiative from his garage in 2017, we have given away over 6,500 bikes! This remarkable achievement would not be possible without the unwavering support of our Fountain Hills community, friends, and neighbors. We are deeply grateful for your continued belief in our mission.
Save the Date: 7th Annual Gran Fondo – February 15, 2025
Mark your calendars! The 7th annual Gran Fondo road ride, sponsored by McDowell Mountain Cycles, is scheduled for February 15, 2025. Last year’s event, a free and inclusive ride for all, raised $1,700 in vital donations for Bob’s Bikes.
This year presents an exciting opportunity to double your impact. An anonymous donor has generously offered to match all donations received, up to $3000. We urge you to help us reach this ambitious goal and provide even more bikes to children in need.
McDowell Mountain Cycles has designed a unique and scenic ride around the Fountain Hills area. Similar to last year, two route distances will be available: approximately 55K (34 miles) and 87K (54 miles). Routes are currently being finalized but will offer a fully supported experience for cyclists of all levels, including sag support and two well-stocked aid stations along the way. Both routes will begin and end at McDowell Mountain Cycles.
What is a Gran Fondo? “Gran Fondo” is Italian for “Big Ride,” and these events are designed to be inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist looking to challenge yourself or new to riding and prefer a more relaxed pace, the Gran Fondo welcomes you.
Join us in supporting Bob’s Bikes’ important mission to provide a bike for every child, 18 years old and younger, in the greater Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area who would otherwise go without. 2024: A Record Year for Bob’s Bikes
We are thrilled to announce the final count for 2024: Bob’s Bikes provided an incredible 1,258 bicycles to children in need! Despite a month-long disruption due to our relocation to the new facility, we surpassed the previous year’s total, setting a new record for bikes distributed.
This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our volunteer staff who work tirelessly to make our mission a reality. We also extend sincere appreciation to all those who donated bicycles, parts, and financial contributions. Your generosity is the driving force behind our success, and we are profoundly grateful for your support.
