Hero MotoCorp stands tall as the world’s largest manufacturer of two-wheelers and India’s best-selling motorcycle company. Holding a commanding market share of over 40% in India, Hero MotoCorp consistently drives innovation and develops new motorcycles and scooters for both the Indian domestic market and international exports. The company’s foundation was laid by Brijmohan Lall Munjal, in partnership with Honda. For two decades, this powerful alliance thrived as Hero Honda, becoming a dominant force specializing in affordable 100-1100cc motorcycles. However, the partnership concluded in 2010, leading both entities to emerge as significant competitors in the automotive landscape.
Today, Hero MotoCorp boasts five operational manufacturing plants, with a sixth under construction in Andhra Pradesh. Its global research and development hub, located in Kukas, Rajasthan, is among the largest in the world. This center is the heart of Hero’s innovation, where all motorcycle and scooter development takes place, featuring advanced test tracks that replicate diverse real-world riding conditions.
While Hero MotoCorp was historically recognized for producing primarily smaller engine capacity motorcycles, recent years have witnessed a strategic shift. The company has successfully engineered and launched performance-oriented motorcycles that resonate strongly with aspirational riders. The Mavrick, Hero’s most powerful bike to date, is celebrated as a flagship model. The Karizma, a legendary nameplate, has been revitalized with a new liquid-cooled engine, signaling Hero’s commitment to performance. Looking ahead, Hero MotoCorp has indicated plans to venture into even larger displacement motorcycles. However, models like the Splendor and Passion Pro series remain the cornerstone of the company’s revenue, maintaining their popularity for decades. Hero MotoCorp has also established a strong foothold in the scooter segment, with the Vida e-scooter gaining significant traction across various regions in India.
Hero MotoCorp’s strategy for the coming years involves a dual focus: strengthening its established bread-and-butter models while aggressively expanding in the growing 200-400cc motorcycle segment. The company has also strategically partnered with global brands including Harley-Davidson and Zero Motorcycles, and holds a substantial stake in Ather Energy, a prominent electric vehicle manufacturer.
