It has come to the attention of the San Francisco Dykes On Bikes® Women’s Motorcycle Contingent (WMC) that the annual Dyke March, traditionally held on the Saturday preceding the Sunday Pride Parade, has been cancelled for 2024. This news is undoubtedly disappointing for the lesbian community, and we are encouraged to hear that organizers are already working towards ensuring the Dyke March continues in future years. The Dyke March is a vital and valued event for our community.
Recent media reports have, in some instances, confused the Dyke March with San Francisco Dykes on Bikes Women’s Motorcycle Contingent. It is important to clarify that Dykes on Bikes is a healthy and thriving organization, operating independently from the Dyke March. While we deeply respect the Dyke March, its organizers, and the crucial role they play within our community, we are and always have been separate entities. Dykes on Bikes will not be involved in any unsanctioned or unpermitted events that may arise in place of the cancelled Dyke March. As an entirely volunteer-run group, our focus is dedicated to organizing the official contingent that proudly leads the San Francisco Pride Parade each year.
San Francisco Dykes on Bikes WMC is enthusiastically preparing to lead the San Francisco Pride Parade on Sunday, June 30th, continuing our unbroken annual tradition since 1976. The Board of Directors of Dykes on Bikes WMC warmly invites and anticipates safely guiding hundreds of Dykes, Allies, and Kindred Spirits down Market Street. The globally recognized image and the powerful roar of our engines will once again serve as a potent reminder of the strength, dignity, and enduring presence of Dykes and Dykes on Bikes WMC. The Board of Directors of the Dykes on Bikes WMC extends its best wishes to the Dyke March organizers and expresses confidence that the Dyke March will return in the future, stronger than ever.
