Its 27.5 x 2.4″ Kenda tires and 100mm suspension fork provide a stable and confidence-inspiring feel. The Turris outperformed several higher-priced models in our tests. The powerful 750W hub motor propels this Class 2-3 e-bike to 20 mph in just 8.4 seconds using throttle alone, and effortlessly reaches 28 mph with its five pedal assist modes. The hydroformed aluminum frame neatly houses a removable, locking 614Wh battery for convenient charging or easier transport. In our range testing, the Turris achieved 22.1 miles on throttle power while climbing over 1200 feet. While slightly less than the Aventon Level Step-Thru’s 28.4 miles, it’s important to remember this is throttle-only range, and real-world range with pedal assist is significantly higher. The larger wheels and knobby tires contribute to a smooth ride, excellent vibration damping, and superior traction. Despite its stability, testers found the Turris agile and enjoyable to ride. Although less adjustable than the Ride1Up 700-Series, the Turris offers comfortable geometry and quality touchpoints. Available in step-thru (5’1″-6’2″) and step-over (5’6″-6’4″) frames, the step-thru version is particularly accessible and features backswept handlebars ideal for seniors or those seeking a relaxed riding posture. The Turris XR comes equipped with fenders, a headlight, and a kickstand, and we found its assembly significantly easier than the Ride1Up 700-Series. While not as laid-back as the Cafe Cruiser, the Turris offers an upright position with excellent visibility. Despite its extensive feature set, the Vika X remains lightweight and highly portable, folding to a compact 35″ x 20″ x 26″ and weighing under 56 pounds, making it easy to transport in vehicles or store away.

We thoroughly enjoyed testing the original hardtail Ride1Up Revv 1, but the Ride1Up Revv 1 FS earns the title of best moped style class 3 electric bike of 2024, offering more than just added suspension. This moped-style e-bike impressed us with its power, comfort, and practical features. Its massive 1040 Wh battery delivered an unmatched 37.17-mile range in our tests, exceeding every other model. The 52V electrical system and 1000W hub motor provide remarkable power and acceleration, especially for a bike weighing almost 97 pounds.

Ride1Up’s Multi-Class Speed System allows adjustable output for various terrains and regulations. Registering the bike unlocks an off-road mode for even greater performance on private land. While the Super73 S2 offers an off-road mode, it doesn’t match the Revv 1 FS’s power and speed.

Featuring 50mm rear suspension and a 120mm suspension fork, the Revv 1 FS is significantly more comfortable than the hardtail Ride1up Revv 1. Upright handlebars and a long, comfortable seat enhance comfort on rough surfaces. Full fenders, lights, turn signals, and a horn add urban utility and a moped-like feel. The clear 3.5″ central display was highly rated, providing ample ride data day and night, unlike the smaller screen of the Super73.

Assembly is simplified with a box designed to support the bike during setup. Tools and instructions are included, along with an assembly video for visual learners. While not optimized for pedaling efficiency, its near 40-mile throttle range minimizes this concern. Adventurous riders can add a second battery to double the range. While its categorization may be debated, the Revv 1 FS excelled in our testing, earning our Editor’s Choice award for class 3 e-bikes. Testers loved the Revv 1 FS for errands and trail exploration, though its weight might pose transportation challenges, as few bike racks support 100 pounds.

The Turbo Levo Comp is the best electric mountain bike of 2024, a full-power all-mountain trail bike featuring 150mm of FSR rear travel and a 160mm fork. The latest Turbo 2.2 motor system offers a more refined feel than previous versions, providing 90Nm of torque for challenging climbs. Despite strong competition in the full-power e-bike market, Specialized has invested heavily in innovation, evident in the Levo’s ride quality and motor integration. While specs may appear similar to competitors, testers were consistently impressed by the Brose motor’s power delivery. At 2.98 kg, it’s slightly heavier than Shimano’s EP801, but this is negligible on a 51 lb, 3 oz bike. The Levo motor offers 5Nm more torque, but the modulation and responsiveness were the standout features. Testers unanimously praised the Levo’s ride quality, describing it as “more natural,” “more balanced,” and “more like a regular trail bike.”

Despite the inherent weight and power of full-power e-mountain bikes, the Levo’s integration effectively masks its mass better than any competitor. In range testing, the Levo covered 33.1 miles on its 700Wh battery, less than the Canyon Spectral:ON with its 900Wh battery, but more than other tested bikes. Adjustable geometry and mixed wheels enhance the Levo Comp’s customization. Adjustable headtube angle and bottom bracket height allow for quick tailoring to different riding styles and terrains. Downhill performance is top-ranked, highlighting the bike’s geometry and handling. Power assist cuts out at 20mph, but downhill, the Levo often exceeds this speed. “The low center of gravity and well-balanced kinematics give it the best handling,” noted lead tester Joshua Hutchens.

While a top performer on trails, the Levo Comp Alloy has some areas for improvement. The SRAM Code R hydraulic disc brakes are effective but lack the adjustability of the Code RSC brakes on the Santa Cruz Heckler. Despite e-bike-specific forks with stiffer steerer tubes becoming standard, the Levo uses a standard Fox 36 Rhythm fork. The base model display is a basic LED readout. Higher-end models feature the Mastermind TCU with customizable, colorful graphics and micro-tune options.

Overall, the Turbo Levo Comp is a clear winner and a benchmark for full-power electric mountain bikes. In addition to top performance, it offers the best value in full-suspension e-MTBs, with only the Ari Wire Peak 2.0 being significantly less expensive but scoring lower overall.

Aventon, a newcomer to the electric mountain bike market, is making waves with the value-packed Ramblas, our choice for the best budget electric mountain bike of 2024. The Ramblas comes trail-ready with a RockShox 35 Silver fork, SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain, SRAM DB8 brakes, and a dropper post. In our range test, the 708Wh battery powered the Ramblas for 30.1 miles with 5980 feet of climbing on a single charge. Aventon’s A100 motor delivers 100 Nm of torque, impressing testers with its power—the most powerful motor we’ve tested to date.

This aluminum 29’er features 130mm of non-adjustable coil-sprung front travel and agreeable, yet slightly conservative, geometry (66.5 / 74.5). Offered in 4 sizes, the smallest using 27.5 wheels, the Ramblas is an accessible and affordable e-MTB for almost any rider (down to 5′ 1″).

Like other alloy hardtails, frame comfort is basic, and wheels are not tubeless-compatible, making it less ideal for technical or aggressive riding. However, its ample power, front and rear lights, and even a kickstand add versatility beyond mountain biking. Tester Chris McNamara noted, “No other E-MTB so easily doubles as a daily commuter.” At 54 lbs, it’s only slightly lighter than the full-suspension Ari Wire Peak 2.0, but the motor effectively compensates for its weight. Class 3

Class 3 electric bikes have higher speed limits, with throttle up to 20 mph and pedal assist up to 28 mph. Regulations are stricter, often requiring helmets and age restrictions (typically 15-16 years old), and they may be restricted from some bike paths. Local regulations should always be checked.
