Ride1Up Roadster V3: Best Value Simple Electric Bike
OVERALL SCORE 78
- Ride 8.0
- Range 6.0
- Power 8.0
- Interface 9.0
- Assembly 9.0
REASONS TO BUY
- Lightweight design enhances handling
- Torque sensor for responsive pedal assist
- Low maintenance components
REASONS TO AVOID
- Minimal vibration damping for rough roads
- Limited adjustability for personalized fit
The Ride1Up Roadster V3 stands out with its refreshingly simple and clean aesthetics, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a minimalist budget electric bike. Its design cleverly conceals its electric nature, avoiding cluttered wiring. Weighing under 42 pounds, the Roadster V3 offers a nimble and sporty riding experience. The single-speed drivetrain simplifies operation, and the 250W hub motor effectively compensates for the lack of gears in most riding scenarios. In range tests, the 360Wh battery impressively powered the bike for nearly 19 miles in its highest power setting using only throttle. The integration of a torque sensor ensures intuitive and responsive pedal assist.
The Roadster V3 features a unique VeloFox all-in-one display with an integrated throttle, maintaining a clean handlebar setup without compromising functionality. Premium components like Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, a Dayco belt drive, and a Selle Royal saddle enhance the bike’s overall feel and performance. Practical accessories including lights, fenders, a kickstand, and a bell are included, making it ready for various conditions, while rack and water bottle mounts allow for further customization.
While adjustability is somewhat limited, the availability of three frame sizes should accommodate a broad range of riders. The 45c tires prioritize rolling efficiency and offer adequate traction for light off-pavement use, though they provide less cushioning on rough surfaces. This model achieves a top pedal assist speed of 25mph and a top throttle speed of 20mph, supporting riders up to 300 pounds.
The Roadster V3 delivers exceptional value, offering more features and performance than its price suggests in the budget electric bike market.

- Interface 9.0
- Assembly 7.0
REASONS TO BUY
- Powerful motor for hauling cargo
- Impressive battery range for extended trips
- High cargo carrying capacity
REASONS TO AVOID
- Cadence sensor may result in less smooth acceleration
- Less refined ride compared to larger wheeled cargo bikes
XPedition 2.0 coming soon, January 2025 (Note: Testing is underway for the new Lectric XPedition 2.0; full review to follow.)
Cargo electric bikes often come with a high price tag, but the Lectric XPedition breaks this trend, providing remarkable performance within the budget electric bike category. It offers the utility and power of more expensive cargo ebikes without compromising essential features. Equipped with a large battery and motor, and including practical accessories like fenders, lights, and a clear digital display, the XPedition is ready for work and everyday tasks. Its standout feature is the impressive 450-pound hauling capacity, surpassing many cargo bikes regardless of size or price. The adjustable stem and seatpost ensure comfortable fitting for various riders, and its compact wheelbase enhances maneuverability and compatibility with bike racks.
The main trade-off for its compact design and short wheelbase is slightly less stable handling, particularly at higher speeds. The smaller wheels and lack of suspension mean bumps are more noticeable on uneven surfaces. However, the XPedition performs admirably overall, effectively handling heavy loads and offering exceptional value as a budget cargo electric bike.

Lectric XP 3.0 Step-Thru: Best Budget Folding Electric Bike
Battery Size: 500 Wh | Measured Weight: 62 lbs 8 oz
REASONS TO BUY
- Arrives almost fully assembled, minimizing setup time
- Folds quickly and compactly for storage and transport
- Knobby tires enhance versatility across different terrains
- Exceptional value for a folding e-bike
- Class 3 speeds for faster commutes
REASONS TO AVOID
- Shorter wheelbase may feel less stable at high speeds
- Limited range compared to non-folding models
The Lectric XP 3.0 Step-Thru excels in portability and convenience, making it the best budget folding electric bike for those with limited storage space or needing to transport their e-bike easily. Its folding design allows for compact storage in car trunks, offices, or apartments. Despite its size, it offers adjustable features to comfortably accommodate a wide range of rider heights. Practical features abound, including fenders, lights, a comfortable seat, ergonomic grips, and a rear cargo rack with a 150 lbs capacity. Lectric even offers an optional passenger seat, increasing its utility. The XP 3.0 is powered by a 500W motor, achieving Class 3 speeds up to 28 mph with pedal assist and 20 mph via throttle. It uses a 500Wh removable battery integrated into the folding frame, with an extended range battery option available. The 3-inch knobby tires and suspension fork contribute to a surprisingly smooth ride across diverse surfaces. Setup is exceptionally easy, as the bike arrives nearly fully assembled.
While highly practical, the XP 3.0’s smaller battery capacity results in a shorter range compared to larger e-bikes. Its maneuverability is excellent thanks to the tight turning radius, but the short wheelbase can feel less stable at higher speeds. Despite this, the bike remains manageable even at 28mph. Although it folds compactly, its 62.5 lbs weight can make it challenging to carry for extended distances or up stairs. Nevertheless, the Lectric XP 3.0 is an outstanding, affordable folding e-bike, ideal for commuters and urban dwellers needing a space-saving and transportable option.

Additional features such as racks, bike lights, and fenders contribute to the overall user experience.
The Ride1Up Turris XR stood out for its exceptional ride quality, providing a composed, predictable, and stable experience, especially at speed. Battery Range Performance
Battery range, representing 25% of the overall score, indicates how far each budget electric bike can travel on a single charge. Factors like battery capacity, rider weight, terrain, and rider input affect range. Our standardized range test involved a single rider on a consistent course for each bike. Class 2 models were tested using throttle-only until battery depletion, while Class 1 models were tested with minimal pedaling input, allowing the motor to do the work. This method provides a reliable low-end range comparison. The test course included approximately 100 feet of elevation change per 2 miles, suggesting that all bikes could achieve greater ranges on flat terrain, especially with pedal assist.
Unsurprisingly, models with larger batteries achieved longer ranges. The Ride1Up Turris XR, with its 614Wh battery, led with 22.1 miles and over 1500 feet of elevation change, maintaining the highest average speed at 17.3 mph. The Lectric XP 3.0, with a 500 Wh battery, followed closely, achieving 24.5 miles with over 1,000 feet of elevation gain.
