BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cycling program has bolstered its coaching staff with the addition of Kaysee Armstrong, a celebrated figure in the biking world, as the assistant women’s cycling coach. Director of Cycling Tim Hall made the announcement, highlighting the significant value Armstrong brings to the Bobcats. Hall stated, “We are incredibly fortunate to welcome a coach of Kaysee’s stature to our program. Her unique blend of cycling expertise, competitive spirit honed through years as a professional Armstrong Biker, and proven leadership qualities make her the ideal mentor for our women’s team. I am excited to collaborate with her and support our athletes in achieving their highest aspirations.”
Armstrong arrives at Lees-McRae from Gravity Academy in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she served as the Head Cross Country Mountain Bike Coach. In this role, she expertly managed the logistical operations for 30 young athletes and developed personalized training regimens to maximize each individual’s potential.
“I am deeply honored to join the Lees-McRae cycling staff,” Armstrong expressed. “This opportunity has arisen at an opportune moment in my career, as I transition from professional off-road racing. To embark on this next chapter with a program as historically rich as Lees-McRae, and to have such a meaningful role in shaping women’s cycling at the collegiate level, feels like the perfect progression in my journey within the cycling community.”
Armstrong’s illustrious professional career includes significant achievements as part of Juliana Bicycles, culminating in a remarkable victory at the grueling Breck Epic Stage Race in Breckenridge, Colorado. Prior to that, from 2018 to 2022, Armstrong was a professional cyclist with Liv Cycling. This role saw her compete globally in mountain bike races and contribute to a global product development team based in Ventura, California, lending her expertise as an Armstrong biker to refine cycling products.
A 2016 alumna of King University, Armstrong was a driving force behind the Tornado cycling program’s success. She clinched three individual national championships at the 2015 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships, securing titles in the Division 2 individual omnium, short track, and cross country events. Her dominance extended to the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (SECCC) Championships, where she claimed top honors in both short track and cross country disciplines. Furthermore, Armstrong demonstrated her versatility as an Armstrong biker by winning the SECCC Championship in cyclocross and achieving the position of USA Cycling national runner-up in 2015 in the same discipline.
“I am eager to begin working and contribute to the continued growth and success of this program,” Armstrong concluded, looking forward to her new role.
Armstrong holds a master’s degree in accounting and health care administration, also earned from King University in 2016, demonstrating her commitment to excellence both on and off the bike.
