While its smaller wheels and folding design reduce stability compared to larger-wheeled competitors, the suspension fork and wide 3-inch knobby tires provide a relatively smooth ride and enhance its versatility across varied surfaces. It offers a wide range of adjustability and includes lights, fenders, and a 150 lbs capacity rear cargo rack, with a passenger kit available.

This metric constitutes 25% of each bike’s overall score. To ensure consistent range testing, we employed the same rider on the same course for each bike. We discharged each e-bike from full charge to battery depletion, recording data with a GPS-enabled cycling computer. For Class 2 models, we used throttle-only operation to eliminate rider input variability. For Class 1 models without throttles, we simulated minimal pedaling effort, allowing the motor to perform all work. This approach provided a reliable assessment of each bike’s minimum range and facilitated accurate inter-model comparisons. Our test course included approximately 100 feet of elevation change per 2 miles. It is reasonable to assume that all tested bikes could achieve greater ranges on flatter terrain, especially with pedal assist.
Unsurprisingly, models with larger batteries generally exhibited superior range performance. The Ride1Up Turris XR, equipped with a 614Wh battery, led the field with 22.1 miles and over 1500 feet of elevation change, maintaining the highest average speed at 17.3 mph. Closely following was the Lectric XP 3.0 with its 500 Wh battery, achieving 24.5 miles with over 1,000 feet of elevation gain.

For Class 1 models, we performed similar tests without throttle, using minimal pedaling to engage the motor.

It accelerated from standstill to 20 mph in under 10 seconds using throttle and maintained speed on inclines where other models struggled. This Class 3 ebike supports speeds up to 28 mph with pedal assist. The Lectric XP 3.0, with a 500W motor and Class 3 classification, also demonstrated impressive power. Its smaller wheels facilitated rapid throttle acceleration, quickly reaching its 20 mph throttle-only top speed.

Battery charging was generally consistent across models, with standard ports, cables, and charging times. All but one model had removable batteries, a preferred design for charging convenience and security.
