About the Bike Kitchen:

The Bike Kitchen in San Francisco is a non-profit, volunteer-run bicycle repair shop dedicated to teaching people of all backgrounds how to fix and maintain their bikes. Established in 2003, we operate as a cooperative, providing an affordable and accessible space for bicycle maintenance and acquisition. We believe in fostering personal growth, offering leadership opportunities, and promoting cycling as a sustainable mode of transport. By encouraging bicycle reuse and recycling, and collaborating with community groups, the Bike Kitchen strives to get more people on bikes.

We provide all the necessary tools and guidance from our experienced volunteer mechanics to help you repair or even build your own bicycle. Whether you are a seasoned cyclist or just starting out, the Bike Kitchen offers a welcoming environment to learn and work on your bike.

How It Works:

Access to our tools and expert advice is available through a day-use fee of just $5. For regular access and to further support our mission, become a member! Memberships range from $40 to $100 on a sliding scale, or you can volunteer for six hours. Membership also grants you access to our “digging rights” program for even more bike-related benefits. For an additional $40 with membership, you can even choose a bike frame and utilize our extensive parts inventory to build or customize your dream ride. No prior bike experience is needed to volunteer.
