How to Rent Your Bike

Renting a bike is a straightforward process:

  1. Request a Bike: Begin by submitting a request through the online form. This is your first step to securing your bike rental.
  2. Review Guidelines: Familiarize yourself with the Bike Emory General Guidelines and the Georgia Bike Sense Guide to understand the terms and conditions of the rental and safe biking practices.
  3. Security Deposit: A refundable $50 security deposit is required for all bike rentals.
  4. Pick-up and Payment: Once your request is processed, a TPS team member will contact you with further instructions. Bike rentals are processed, paid for, and picked up at the Parking Office, located at 1945 Starvine Way, Suite 400B, on the 4th level of the Starvine Deck.

Rental Periods and Fees

Emory TPS offers bike rentals for each semester:

  • Fall Semester: August – December: $50
  • Spring Semester: January – May: $50
  • Summer Semester: May – August: $50

The standard rental fee is $50 per semester. You can also rent a lock for an additional $10 rental fee plus a $5 deposit. Helmets are available for purchase at $10.

Security Deposit Details

Remember the $50 security deposit is fully refundable when you return the bike in good condition, as outlined in the rental agreement.

Understanding the Bike Rental Agreement

Before you finalize your bike rental, it’s essential to understand the Bike Emory General Guidelines. This document covers important aspects of your rental agreement, including responsibilities and liabilities.

Late, Lost, or Damage Fees

Be aware of the following fees to avoid extra charges:

  • Late Bike Fee: Returning your bike after the due date and time (2:45 p.m.) will incur a late fee of $20 for the first day and $30 for each subsequent day. These fees will be deducted from your security deposit initially. After two days of late fees, additional charges will apply.
  • Lost Bike Fee: If the bike is lost, you will forfeit your security deposit and be responsible for the full replacement cost of the bike, which is $650.
  • Lost Key or Lock: A $35 fee applies to replace a lost key or lock system.
  • Damage Due to Misuse: You will be responsible for covering the cost of parts and labor for any damage resulting from misuse of the bike.
