Hello usabikers.net community! I’m taking my first steps into the world of e-bikes, and the timing couldn’t be better as my city is offering e-bike rebates, making the idea of owning one incredibly appealing. Living in the downtown area means most of my trips are short, and I’m really drawn to the stability and carrying capacity of a 3-wheel trike. As a nervous and beginner cyclist, the added balance of a trike is a big plus, especially since I frequently need to transport bulky items like water jugs.
Currently, the local shops participating in the rebate program only offer the Pedego trike. While it’s an option, it doesn’t quite excite me. It seems a bit underpowered for my needs, and the cargo space isn’t as generous as I’d hoped for.

I’ve been looking at other e-bike models online, and the Ride1 Up Cafe Cruiser and Rad Power Bikes seem like stronger contenders based on their price point and power. Thinking about alternatives to a dedicated e-trike, I even inquired at a bike shop about converting a standard e-bike into a trike using a conversion kit. Unfortunately, they advised against it, mentioning the rear conversion kit I found might be too complex to adapt.
It appears that a reverse trike conversion might be a more straightforward approach when starting with an e-bike. I came across the TReGo reverse trike system, but I’m unsure if they ship to the US. Similarly, I reached out to AddBike to see if they are currently shipping their reverse trike conversion kits to the United States. I also stumbled upon a potentially budget-friendly option on AliExpress, which would definitely ship to the US. However, the quality is a big unknown, and I would need to figure out a cargo platform solution, though I’m reasonably confident I could manage that.
Are there any other Bike Trike options or conversion methods I might be overlooking? My online searches for “reverse trike” mostly lead to motorcycle results, even when I try to exclude “motorcycle” from my queries.
What else should I consider when choosing a bike trike, especially as a beginner and for cargo hauling? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!
