This guide outlines everything you need to know about renting from Bike Works Kona, from operating hours to cancellation policies, and special conditions for race weeks.
Bike Rental Hours and Pickup Information
Our rental department is open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Please ensure you arrive before 4:30 PM to pick up your bike, allowing ample time for bike fitting and to finalize any necessary details.
Important Location Reminders:
- Bike Works Beach and Sports: Bikes reserved at our Bike Works Beach and Sports location must be picked up and returned at Queen’s Marketplace in Waikoloa Beach Resort. Please arrange with our staff in advance if you require alternative arrangements.
- Bike Works Mauka: For reservations at Bike Works Mauka, pickups and returns are exclusively at our Waimea location. Similar to our Beach and Sports location, please contact us beforehand for any special requests.
- Bikeworks Mauka – Sunday & Monday Operations: Please note that Bikeworks Mauka is closed for pickups and returns on Sundays and Mondays. However, for your convenience, optional pickup at Bikeworks Beach and Sports in Waikoloa can be arranged on these days. Kindly call ahead to make arrangements.
Bike Return Policy
To avoid additional charges, please return your rental bike on the agreed-upon return date. Failure to do so will result in extra fees calculated at the standard daily rental rate, without any discounts applied.
Rental Cancellation Policy
We understand that plans can change, and we have outlined our cancellation policies below:
- Standard 48-Hour Cancellation Policy: For rentals outside of race or holiday weeks, we require a 48-hour cancellation notice. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before your scheduled pickup, or failure to pick up your rental, will result in a charge equivalent to one day’s rental. Changes to reservations within 48 hours of pickup or drop-off may also be subject to charges.
- Race Week 2-Week Cancellation Policy: Rentals during race weeks (Lavaman, Ironman 70.3, and Ironman World Championship) have a stricter 2-week cancellation policy. Cancellations within two weeks of your rental appointment, or failure to pick up, will incur a minimum charge of 7 days rental. For rentals exceeding 7 days during race weeks, shortening the rental period after deposit is received is not permitted.
Special Conditions for Race Week Rentals
Please be aware of the following minimum rental periods during major race events:
- IRONMAN World Championships (Kona): For rentals between October 20th, 2024, and October 27th, 2024, a 7-day minimum rental period applies due to the IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Kona on Saturday, October 26th, 2024.
- LAVAMAN Waikoloa: When renting between March 31st, 2025, and April 7th, 2025, a 7-day minimum rental is in place for LAVAMAN Waikoloa, taking place on Sunday, April 6th, 2025. Rentals booked for fewer than 7 days during this period will be adjusted to reflect a 7-day minimum charge.
- Hawaii IRONMAN 70.3 “Honu”: A 7-day minimum rental period is required for rentals between May 25th, 2025, and June 1st, 2025, encompassing the Hawaii IRONMAN 70.3 “Honu” event on Saturday, May 31st, 2025. Similar to Lavaman week, rentals shorter than 7 days will be charged at the 7-day minimum rate.
