Iconic Bikes of Sons of Anarchy: A Ride Through SAMCRO’s Garage

The roaring engines and gleaming chrome of the Sons of Anarchy bikes were as crucial to the show’s allure as the gripping narrative of SAMCRO itself. For fans, the motorcycles weren’t just props; they were characters in their own right, embodying the freedom, rebellion, and danger at the heart of the show. The best SOA motorcycles are indelibly etched in television history, instantly recognizable and deeply symbolic of the outlaw biker lifestyle.

What elevated the Sons of Anarchy bikes beyond mere vehicles was the authenticity injected by David Labrava, a former motorcycle club member who served as the show’s technical advisor and portrayed the stoic Happy Lowman. Labrava’s expertise ensured that the bikes, often heavily customized, resonated with genuine biker culture. Adding to this realism was the fact that many of the cast members were motorcycle enthusiasts themselves, bringing a palpable passion for riding to their roles. While the compelling storylines and stellar performances were undeniable, the Sons of Anarchy motorcycles became an iconic facet of the show, enhancing its visual appeal and gritty authenticity.

15 White Harley-Davidson Dyna – Kip ‘Half-Sack’ Epps

Kip ‘Half-Sack’ Epps, the earnest prospect in early Sons of Anarchy seasons, always felt somewhat apart from the core SAMCRO members. This sense of being an outsider was visually represented by his distinctive motorcycle. Unlike the predominantly dark Harley-Davidson Super Glides favored by the club, Half-Sack rode a Harley-Davidson Dyna. Produced from 1991 to 2018, the Dyna offered a wider array of chassis configurations, allowing for unique customizations.

Half-Sack’s Dyna stood out not just due to its frame but also its striking white trim, a stark contrast to the darker hues of his clubmates’ bikes. This lighter color palette could be interpreted as symbolic of his relative inexperience within the SAMCRO ranks. According to motorcycle valuation sites, a Harley-Davidson Dyna’s price range can vary significantly, from approximately $2,100 to $16,000, making it one of the more accessible Bikes In Soa.

14 Hellrazor – Rane Quinn

The Hellrazor, ridden by Quinn in Sons of Anarchy, is arguably the most unique motorcycle featured on the show. Its exclusivity stems from the fact that it’s a completely bespoke creation, custom-built by Rusty Coones of Illusion Motorcycles, who also played Quinn in the series. To replicate the Hellrazor, one would have to commission a build from scratch, with an estimated price tag of around $100,000 (according to custom bike publications), potentially making it the most expensive non-vintage bike in Sons of Anarchy.

This SAMCRO ride is so individual that even the wheels are custom-fabricated. Kurt Sutter, the creator of Sons of Anarchy, handpicked the Hellrazor after being captivated by its sleek design and unparalleled aesthetic. The bike is a perfect match for Rusty Coones, who is highly respected in motorcycle circles for the extraordinary and unique machines crafted by Illusion Motorcycles.

13 1970s Triumph Bonneville – Lincoln Potter

While SAMCRO members boast some of the most coveted bikes in SOA, they aren’t the only characters with impressive rides. Lincoln Potter, the cunning and often manipulative U.S. Attorney portrayed by Ray McKinnon, is a character fans love to hate, but he also possesses one of the coolest vintage motorcycles in the series: a 1970s Triumph Bonneville. In a sea of Harley-Davidsons, Linc distinguishes himself by riding a classic from the renowned British manufacturer Triumph.

The Bonneville is a quintessential retro bike, embodying the golden era of British motorcycles. Triumphs were immensely popular during their heyday, known for their distinctive style and performance. Despite its vintage status, the Triumph Bonneville as seen in Sons of Anarchy remains relatively accessible. A well-maintained 1970s Triumph Bonneville can be found for around $15,000 (based on classic motorcycle valuation guides), a considerably more modest sum compared to the custom Hellrazor or some of the Harley-Davidson models favored by SAMCRO.

12 Harley-Davidson Road King – Marcus Alvarez

Besides SAMCRO, the Mayans Motorcycle Club was the most prominent rival and ally in Sons of Anarchy, eventually earning their own spin-off series. Among the notable non-SAMCRO bikes in SOA, Marcus Alvarez’s Harley-Davidson Road King stands out. Marcus’s bike is instantly recognizable, not only because the Road King is a powerful and imposing model from Harley-Davidson, but also due to its customizations, particularly the rich Mayan Green paint job.

The Road King is a touring motorcycle engineered for long-distance riding. While not built for outright speed, it’s renowned for its durability and commanding presence. The latest 2024 Harley-Davidson Road King models start around $25,000 and up (according to Harley-Davidson’s official website), though the price of the specific older model ridden by Alvarez is harder to pinpoint precisely.

11 Harley-Davidson 1996 Heritage Softail – Various Mayans M.C. Members

While many background SAMCRO members ride various Harley-Davidson Dynas or Super Glide variants, the Mayans M.C. bikes offer a visual contrast. This consistency in motorcycle choice reinforced SAMCRO’s unified aesthetic in Sons of Anarchy, and a similar approach was taken in selecting bikes for the Mayans, which carried over into the Mayans M.C. spin-off. The Mayans are immediately identifiable by their Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Deluxe models.

Although individual Mayans members incorporate minor customizations, as a collective, their bikes are distinguished by their lower riding profile compared to SAMCRO’s. The Mayans also tend towards brighter colors and chrome finishes, further differentiating them visually in scenes where SAMCRO and the Mayans interact. A 1996 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail, similar to those in Sons of Anarchy, is valued at approximately $12,000 or slightly more (based on classic motorcycle price guides).

10 Harley-Davidson Electra Tri-Glide – Piermont ‘Piney’ Winston

As a founding member of SAMCRO, one of the “First 9,” Piney Winston was grappling with age and declining health. No longer possessing the strength for a traditional two-wheeled motorcycle, Piney’s Sons of Anarchy bike was instantly recognizable for its unique configuration. His Harley-Davidson Electra Tri-Glide stood out with its three wheels and a custom oxygen tank holster on the back, essential for his health – all while maintaining the iconic Grim Reaper emblem on the fuel tank.

Harley-Davidson’s Tri-Glide lineage dates back to 1932, with the Electra-Glide joining the lineup in 1965. The Electra Tri-Glide, as seen in the show, entered production in 2008. Despite the added stability of three wheels, Piney’s ride was still a capable SOA bike, reaching a top speed around 100 mph. However, this unique machine comes at a premium. Current valuations list the Harley-Davidson Electra Tri-Glide at around $36,949.

9 2008 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide – Clarence ‘Clay’ Morrow

As the initial President of SAMCRO in Sons of Anarchy, Clay Morrow’s bike reflected his leadership role. His motorcycle prominently displayed the club’s Reaper logo, larger than on any other member’s ride. While sharing similarities with other bikes in SOA, Clay’s 2008 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide distinguished itself with its glossy black finish and powerful engine sound. Interestingly, Ron Perlman, who brought Clay to life, admitted to not being a motorcycle enthusiast in reality. He once humorously captioned a cast photo on bikes:

I have to admit, I look pretty bad a** on a bike. Pretty sexy. Pretty gangsta. I also gotta admit, bikes don’t like me. And it’s mutual.”

Despite the actor’s personal feelings, Clay’s Dyna was a formidable machine. Upgraded with a new chassis and six-speed transmission, this iteration paid homage to the classic 1971 Super Glide. It boasted a top speed of approximately 105.63 mph and is currently valued around $13,650.

8 2006 Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob – Alexander “Tig” Trager

Tig Trager’s survival throughout Sons of Anarchy was remarkable, considering his reckless and violent nature. Despite his dark tendencies, Tig was also a source of dark humor, often seen navigating Charming on his 2006 Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob. His bike played a pivotal role in a memorable scene where he dragged police barricades through Charming, creating a diversion for SAMCRO members to reach Belfast. Tig’s Sons of Anarchy motorcycle was uniquely adorned with spikes and skulls, reflecting his edgy persona.

A defining characteristic of Tig’s bike was its evident speed, consistently placing him at the forefront of chases involving the club. Tig’s Dyna was among the fastest bikes in SOA, capable of reaching a top speed of 115 mph with a quarter-mile acceleration in around 13.5 seconds. This 2006 model now sells for approximately $13,480.

7 Panhead – Harry ‘Opie’ Winston

Another classic bike in Sons of Anarchy was the Panhead, which Opie Winston dedicated considerable time to restoring in his garage. Despite owning a modern Harley, Opie’s ambition was to revive the Panhead and ride it through Charming, evoking a 1960s vibe. Like JT’s bike, the Panhead also sported a blue color scheme. Given that Opie’s father, Piney, was a First 9 member, it’s likely the bike belonged to him. Opie’s childhood fascination with the bike likely stemmed from watching his father ride it. Tragically, Opie was killed in prison before he could realize his dream of riding the restored Panhead.

The Panhead entered production during the post-World War II economic boom. It features a two-cylinder, four-valve push-rod V-twin engine. Had Opie completed the restoration, the Panhead could have reached a top speed of 100 mph, with horsepower ranging from 50 to 55. Produced between 1948 and 1965, Panheads are now highly sought after. Their current value can reach as high as $52,250.

6 FXDB Street Bob – Happy Lowman

Happy Lowman, known for his minimal dialogue, still made a significant impact, and his FXDB Street Bob was undoubtedly one of the coolest bikes in SAMCRO. Happy was a man of action, not words, establishing himself as one of SAMCRO’s most lethal members. He consistently rode the same bike from the first to the final season – a 2011 FXDB Street Bob, whose features mirrored his solitary nature.

The bike’s single-seat configuration reflected Happy’s lone wolf persona, preventing passengers. Happy’s FXDB was auctioned off in 2012, with proceeds benefiting a charity. These Sons of Anarchy bikes have a top speed of around 115 mph and are valued at approximately $13,574.

5 Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Road Glide – T.O. Cross

T.O. Cross marked a milestone as the first African American member patched into SAMCRO after Jax eliminated the “Whites Only” rule. The former Grim Bastards president rode one of the most visually striking bikes in the show, a heavily customized Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Road Glide. Like many SAMCRO bikes, T.O.’s ride was personalized to reflect his character and his narrative arc within the show.

T.O.’s Sons of Anarchy bike featured an orange and black color scheme, lending it a stylish rather than overtly menacing appearance. The orange was a nod to the Grim Bastards’ official colors. The Screamin’ Eagle also distinguished itself with twin headlights, unlike the single headlights on most other bikes. This is among the more expensive Sons of Anarchy bikes, priced around $27,995, and capable of reaching an impressive top speed of 180 mph.

4 Custom Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob – Filip ‘Chibs’ Telford

When it comes to motorcycle brands associated with biker gangs, Harley-Davidson is paramount, explaining the prevalence of Harleys in SAMCRO’s arsenal in Sons of Anarchy. While several SAMCRO members rode the Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob, Chibs Telford’s stood out due to the absence of a front fairing. It also featured matte black Z-bars paired with risers. A Saint Andrew’s Cross on the saddle subtly acknowledged his Irish Republican Army (IRA) connections.

Chibs was a fan-favorite character, and after enduring significant hardship at the hands of Irish gangster Jimmy O, his ascension to SAMCRO president in the Sons of Anarchy finale was a satisfying moment. Chibs’ Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob had a top speed of approximately 107.5 mph. First manufactured in 1991, it is currently valued around $15,549.

3 1946 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead – John Teller

Jax Teller’s father, John “JT” Teller, the founder of SAMCRO, had passed away before the series began, but his bike remained a significant element of the show’s narrative. Teller’s bike, preserved at the Clubhouse, was said to be the one he was riding during the accident that caused his death. Following the accident, the bike was repaired and kept as a memorial. Sadly, it was destroyed again when the Clubhouse was bombed. JT’s bike was iconic as one of the two classic bikes in the series, representing a bygone post-World War II era.

This Sons of Anarchy bike was a 1946 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead, rented by the show due to its rarity. This particular Knucklehead was a street bike, with only 3,986 Knucklehead models produced by Harley-Davidson that year. Despite its age, it was a fast bike for its time, reaching nearly 100 mph thanks to its powerful engine. In excellent condition, this bike is now valued at approximately $60,475.

2 2003 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Sport – Jax Teller

Jax Teller’s bike was so visually appealing that it prompted a stranger to take a photo with it, leading to an aggressive confrontation when he did so without permission. Jax’s 2003 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Sport stood apart from other bikes in SOA with its custom T-bars, enhancing handling. Interestingly, Charlie Hunnam, Jax’s portrayer, is a genuine motorcycle enthusiast and owns the same model bike he rode throughout the show’s seven seasons.

Jax’s Super Glide Sport was heavily customized, featuring a V-Twin engine with a 1499cc displacement. This gave him both speed and control, further enhanced by upgraded handlebars, suspension, and disc brakes. In a tragic parallel to his father, Jax met his end by riding his Sons of Anarchy bike into an oncoming truck. Jax’s bike had a top speed of 105.63 mph and is currently valued between $14,000 and $17,000.

1 Custom Chopper – Robert ‘Bobby Elvis’ Munson

Bobby “Elvis” Munson generally remained a likable character, despite a few missteps. This was somewhat unexpected given his eccentric personality, which was definitely reflected in his choice of ride throughout Sons of Anarchy‘s seven seasons. Over the show’s run, Bobby owned three different bikes, but his first was arguably his most iconic.

During his “Elvis” phase, Bobby rode a custom chopper he built from the ground up. Constructed on a hard-tail frame, it featured mini ape hanger handlebars and a springer seat. The front springer forks were raked, achieving the quintessential chopper aesthetic. Like Chibs’ Harley, Bobby’s Sons of Anarchy bike also lacked front fairings. Unlike other production models, Bobby’s chopper was entirely custom-made and not available for purchase from any dealer, making it truly unique among the bikes in SOA.
