At Bikes Not Bombs in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, we deeply appreciate the generous influx of bike donations that fuel our diverse programs. Thanks to community support, we are able to empower individuals locally and internationally through bicycle access and education. However, the sheer volume of donated bikes we process means we operate under a specific policy regarding their allocation.
Due to the significant number of bicycle donations received at our Jamaica Plain location, we are unable to accommodate requests to track individual bikes or manage their allocation to specific programs. We have established a comprehensive system and procedure for distributing bikes effectively, considering numerous factors to ensure they are utilized where they can make the most impact. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that a donated bike will be directed to a particular program area of the donor’s choosing.
We encourage everyone to explore and engage with our various initiatives at Bikes Not Bombs. When considering a donation, we kindly ask donors to understand that while their contribution is invaluable, the bike or item they donate may be best suited for a program area different from their initial preference. We trust our experienced team to make informed decisions about the most responsible and impactful use of all donated items.
The optimal reuse of each bicycle depends on a multitude of variables, and the program area where a particular bike can be most beneficial can fluctuate. Furthermore, the technical and material characteristics that determine a bike’s best application are highly complex. Our operations involve the collection, processing, transportation, and storage of bicycles on a large scale. Making exceptions for individual bikes would disrupt our streamlined system and create inefficiencies.
With over 40 years of experience in equitable bike redistribution, Bikes Not Bombs assures all donors that their bicycles will be re-homed in a fair and environmentally conscious manner. If you are interested in understanding how a specific bike donation might be utilized, please feel free to send a detailed description of the bike or item to [email protected]. We appreciate your understanding and continued support of Bikes Not Bombs in Jamaica Plain, MA.
