Spotting a Bullet Bike: An Unexpectedly Fast Ride in Longchamp

Cycling around the Longchamp race track yesterday, as I often do, I experienced something quite unusual. This popular loop, a haven for cyclists especially on weekends, became the backdrop for a surprising encounter with what I can only describe as a pedal-powered bullet.

As I approached the loop, a distinct “whomp-whomp-whomp” sound caught my attention. It was reminiscent of a disc wheel, but with a deeper, almost wooden rumble. Intrigued, I paused, leaning my bike against a tree to investigate. Moments later, a silver flash sped past. Frankly, I was taken aback and needed a second look to understand what I had just witnessed. Patience paid off; about five minutes later, it reappeared.

The sheer velocity of this recumbent bicycle was remarkable. Even as it navigated the corner, it maintained incredible speed, outpacing other cyclists with ease on both of its laps that I observed. I’m confident it wasn’t long before this bullet bike was cruising at 30MPH or even faster along the straighter sections of the course.

I’m genuinely curious about the mechanics and design of this recumbent marvel. Given its regularity on the Longchamp loop, I’m hopeful I’ll have another opportunity to examine this bullet bike more closely, especially as the weather warms and I cycle there more often. Perhaps some of my knowledgeable readers might already know the story behind this unique cyclist and their impressive machine. If you have any insights, please share them in the comments below!

On a related note about speed and bicycles, my Wikipedia exploration led me to the astonishing unpaced two-wheeled bicycle world speed record of 363.86MPH. Incredible!

Thanks for reading!
