Conte’s Bike Shop boasts a rich history rooted in a dedication to serving and enhancing local communities. Since its inception, this family-owned business has been committed to providing exceptional service and top-tier products.
From Humble Beginnings to a Thriving Enterprise
The Conte’s Bike Shop story began in 1957 when Charles R. Conte, Sr. opened his first store in Newport News, Virginia. As the son of Italian immigrants and a hardworking machinist at a local shipyard, Conte Sr. channeled his passion for bicycles into a small, neighborhood bike and repair shop. His vision was simple yet powerful: offer personalized service and guarantee the highest quality products. This commitment quickly became the hallmark of Conte’s, fostering a unique customer experience that turned first-time visitors into lifelong patrons.
Expansion and Growth Across the Region
In 2002, Conte’s Bike Shop marked a new chapter by moving its corporate headquarters to Virginia Beach. David Conte later acquired full ownership, and in 2014, partnered with Wayne Souza to establish the Conte Bicycle Group. This strategic alliance fueled significant expansion. Today, Conte’s Bike Shop operates numerous locations across Virginia, including Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Williamsburg, Newport News, Falls Church, Richmond, Arlington, and Alexandria. The group’s reach extends beyond Virginia, with stores in Washington, D.C. (Navy Yard, Logan Circle, and Cathedral Heights) and Florida (Ft. Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and Boynton Beach). Adding to their offerings, the Conte Bicycle Group also distributes products under their private label, “1957 Brand” ™, a nod to their founding year and heritage.
Recognized for Excellence and Dedication
Conte’s Bike Shop’s unwavering commitment to quality and customer satisfaction has earned them consistent recognition within the bicycle industry. They are proud to be a 10-time recipient of the prestigious “Top 100 Best Bicycle Retailers” award from the National Bicycle Dealers Association, a testament to their enduring legacy and dedication to the cycling community.
