Navigating game day traffic can be a nightmare, but our experience with an electric three-wheel bike has been a game-changer, especially when it comes to supporting our Texas A&M team. Dealing directly with the team at Oh Wow was a pleasure, even with minor shipping hiccups – which were quickly resolved. Now, our electric trike is our go-to transportation for game days, transforming our 1.5-mile journey from home to the Texas A&M stadium. The real win? Free parking at bike racks, putting us much closer to the stadium action and offering unparalleled mobility compared to cars, especially with post-game road closures and delays.
The speed of this electric machine is impressive, particularly on straight paths. Braking is reasonable, though it requires some anticipation. However, it’s crucial to remember that handling differs significantly from a standard bicycle. You’re upright and can’t lean into turns like on two wheels, meaning slowing down for corners is essential. Another point to note is its slightly wider rear wheel base compared to the handlebars. This width awareness is critical to avoid accidentally clipping a curb with a rear wheel. Unfortunately, we learned this firsthand at over 20 mph, resulting in my wife being ejected – thankfully, without serious injury. She’s recovered, though perhaps slightly traumatized! Whether a seatbelt would have changed the outcome is debatable; regaining control was possible immediately after she was ejected. Adding her weight (around 145 lbs) back into the equation might have even risked a flip. Ultimately, it was a user error moment, a valuable lesson learned and shared as a real-world caution. Despite this incident, I genuinely believe this electric trike is a safer transportation option than the double scooter we previously used.
This machine feels robust and well-constructed – admittedly heavy, but understandably so. Despite the user error incident, it has proven to be consistently reliable. Finally, while it sits at the higher end of the price spectrum, making it a luxury purchase for some, my experience has consistently shown that you generally get the quality you invest in. If you’re considering an Electric Chopper Bike for practical use and enjoyment, this experience is certainly worth considering.
