I’m incredibly happy with my new Portola folding eBike. Having owned this Ride1Up Portola eBike for just two months, I’m very satisfied with both its appearance and how well it performs as a fantastic electric folding eBike. It’s worth mentioning that since its easy assembly right after delivery, it has remained in its unfolded state. The motor’s power is impressive, effortlessly assisting me uphill. The 13.4 AH battery range is truly excellent; I haven’t yet depleted the charge even after rides exceeding 45 miles, typically using PAS levels 1 and 2.
At 5′ 10″, the ebike is a comfortable fit for me. Coming from bikes with a top tube, the step-thru frame was a new experience. A key takeaway for anyone new to step-thru frames is to always maintain a grip on the handlebars when stationary without the kickstand – unlike traditional bikes, this one requires the kickstand to remain upright when stopped, as it can’t be held up by leaning against your leg. A minor tip-over did cost me a bar end mirror, a lesson learned more about handling this style of bike than a fault of the bike itself.
One area for potential improvement is the trip mileage tracking on the display. Resetting the trip miles to zero for each new ride involves navigating through the general settings each time to clear the miles. It would be more user-friendly if the trip miles could automatically reset by default or through a saved setting, eliminating the need to manually clear it before every ride. Despite owning another older eBike, the Portola has become my preferred choice for riding these days!
