Conquering Hills and Miles: My Ride on an Electric Trike Bike

Electric Trike Bikes are becoming an increasingly popular option for riders seeking stability and ease, and I recently had the chance to experience firsthand what they can offer. Setting out on a ride through hilly terrain, the immediate goal was to test the electric trike’s capabilities, particularly its handling on both inclines and declines, and to gauge its battery efficiency.

One of the first things you learn when riding a trike, especially downhill, is the importance of smooth, controlled movements. Unlike a two-wheeled bicycle where you can lean into turns, sudden swerving on a trike at speed can lead to instability. The key is to maintain a steady hand, keeping the handlebars as straight as possible, and carefully monitoring your speed to ensure a stable and comfortable descent. Using the brakes judiciously, particularly the rear brake, allows for controlled speed management on steeper downhill sections.

Moving from downhill to uphill, the electric assist truly shines. Even with pedal assist set to level five, the effort required to climb inclines was surprisingly minimal. Leaning slightly into the incline helped to keep all three wheels firmly planted, maximizing traction and stability. It was impressive to feel the electric motor working efficiently, making the uphill sections feel almost effortless. Despite tackling numerous hills throughout the ride, the battery indicator barely budged, demonstrating the excellent energy efficiency of the electric trike.

Throughout the ride, which covered over four miles of hilly San Clemente terrain, the electric trike proved to be a capable and efficient machine. Even with a rider of around 220 pounds navigating challenging hills, the battery only dropped by a single bar. This experience highlighted the electric trike’s ability to handle demanding routes without compromising battery life. As the ride neared its end, and with the cameraman’s equipment running low on battery, the focus shifted to navigating back, obeying traffic laws, and safely maneuvering through any obstacles, like branches on the path, encountered along the way.

In conclusion, this ride provided valuable insights into the practical aspects of riding an electric trike bike. From the stability needed for downhill stretches to the power assist for conquering hills and the impressive battery performance, electric trikes present a compelling option for riders looking for a stable and efficient mode of transportation, particularly in areas with varied terrain.
