Fair Wheel Bikes in Tucson isn’t just a bike shop; it’s a vibrant hub for cyclists and home to some of the most renowned group rides in the region. Every Tuesday and Saturday morning, cyclists of all levels gather for fast-paced and exhilarating rides, often joined by top professional riders from across the globe, especially during spring and fall. These group rides, starting on the west side of the University of Arizona at University Avenue and Euclid Avenue, offer a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself and connect with the Tucson cycling community.
Tuesday Morning Fast Ride (TMFR)
The Tuesday Morning Fast Ride (TMFR) is a mid-week staple for cyclists seeking a challenging workout. Typically drawing a group of 10 to 40 riders, this ride covers approximately 35 miles of diverse terrain, culminating in a demanding steep climb. Be prepared for a high pace at the front, but don’t worry if you find yourself falling behind; there are always riders to team up with. The TMFR start time aligns with the Saturday Shootout, detailed below.

The Saturday Shootout
“The Shootout” is the highlight of the weekend for many Tucson cyclists. This Saturday morning group ride is famous for its large turnouts, ranging from around 20 riders in the summer months to over 100 during the winter and spring seasons. The route is designed for speed and flow, featuring rolling terrain, two designated sprint sections, and a convenient gas station stop roughly at the halfway point. The total distance clocks in at just over 70 miles. For those seeking extra mileage and elevation gain, keep an eye out for the turnoff to Madera Canyon along Duval Mine Road. To accommodate different skill levels and desired paces, The Shootout is further divided into groups: the main “Shootout (A)” group, followed by the slightly less intense “Scootout (B)” and “Old Old Man (C)” rides, each departing 5 minutes after the preceding group.
