The Green Bikes program operates with two core functions to serve the Claremont Colleges community:
- Annual Bike Giveaway: Each fall semester, Green Bikes provides over 300 students with bicycles for the entire academic year, completely free of charge. This includes all necessary parts and maintenance services, ensuring you have a reliable ride throughout the year.
- Sustainable Bike Maintenance and Repair Shop: Green Bikes runs a student-operated repair shop focused on sustainability. They service their rental fleet, offering free repairs to students currently renting bikes. Both new and used parts are available at discounted rates, making bike maintenance affordable and environmentally conscious.
Beyond these core services, Green Bikes actively fosters a vibrant on-campus bike community. They host various bike-related workshops and outreach events designed to promote a sustainable and healthy lifestyle through eco-friendly transportation.
Rent a Bike with Green Bikes

You can find the Green Bike Shop conveniently located in the basement of Norton-Clark III. The shop is easily accessible via a ramped entrance on Sixth Street, directly across from Merritt Football Field.

Green Bike Services: Maintenance and More
The Green Bike Shop provides complimentary bicycle servicing and maintenance exclusively for users of their rental bikes. Services include essential repairs such as tube and tire replacements, brake adjustments, chain maintenance, wheel truing, and derailleur adjustments. More complex repairs are assessed and handled on a case-by-case basis.
Please note that Green Bikes currently does not offer major overhauls or comprehensive tune-ups due to time constraints and limited scheduling. While they are happy to address specific issues, extensive maintenance is beyond their current capacity.
Whenever possible, Green Bikes prioritizes sustainability by using recycled parts from donated bikes for repairs. When new parts are necessary, they are offered at discounted prices.
Additionally, Green Bikes offers u-lock rentals for a nominal fee of five dollars per academic year, ensuring your bike is secure on campus.
Looking ahead, Green Bikes is developing a short-term bicycle checkout program. This upcoming service will allow Pomona students to borrow bikes for single-day use or up to a week, completely free of charge. All you’ll need is your name, student ID, and phone number to take advantage of this convenient short-term rental option.
