Griffin Bike Park Special Policies
Park Hours
Griffin Bike Park is open from dawn until dusk, weather permitting. For the latest updates on trail conditions, please monitor our Facebook page: @griffinbikeparkIN. Night riding is allowed only with prior authorization.
Authorized Users
The park welcomes:
- Riders on non-motorized, activity-specific bicycles.
- Pedestrians in designated multi-use trail and spectating areas.
- Individuals utilizing other designated recreational amenities.
- Children under 13 years of age must be supervised by a parent or responsible adult (18+) at all times, unless special permission is granted.
- Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a leash at all times.
- Class 1 E-bikes are permitted. However, all other motorized bikes, including throttle-equipped bikes and non-pedal assist bikes, are prohibited.
Unauthorized Users
For safety and park preservation, the following are not permitted:
- Motorcycles and other motorized vehicles, including off-road vehicles and ATVs.
- Equestrians.
Recommended Safety Equipment
Safety is paramount at Griffin Bike Park. While enjoying the trails, we strongly recommend the following safety equipment:
- Helmets: Riders are required to wear a helmet with the chin strap securely buckled at all times.
- Lighting: Trail users are responsible for using appropriate lighting equipment during hours of reduced daylight or darkness.
- Additional Protective Gear: Gloves, knee/shin pads, arm/elbow pads, and full-face helmets are highly recommended to enhance your safety.
Other Rules
All visitors to Griffin Bike Park are subject to the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department Policies, in addition to the specific policies of Griffin Bike Park.
Ride Smart – Ride Safe
To maximize your safety and enjoyment at Griffin Bike Park, please adhere to the following “Ride Smart” guidelines:
- Scout Your Lines: Always inspect trail features and obstacles before attempting to ride them.
- Hit Your Lines: Ride within your personal limits and skill level. Do not attempt features beyond your capabilities.
- Don’t Ride Sketchy: Refrain from riding trails or features if you observe hazardous conditions. Report any hazardous conditions by emailing [email protected] or by calling the Administrative Office at (812) 462-3392.
- Protect the Park and Yourself: Avoid riding trails or features if hazardous conditions exist to prevent injury and park damage.
Show Respect
Griffin Bike Park is a shared space. Please be respectful of all park users, staff, volunteers, and neighboring residents.
- No Digging: Park users are strictly prohibited from building or altering trails or riding features. Unauthorized trail modifications can compromise safety and park integrity.
Assumption of Risk Agreement
THIS IS AN UNSUPERVISED FACILITY
Use of Griffin Bike Park, whether as a participant or spectator, is at your own risk. The Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department, Vigo County Parks and Recreation Board, Vigo County Council, and its agents assume no liability for injuries or property damage resulting from the use of this facility. Mountain biking and related activities are inherently hazardous, and participants and spectators may sustain injuries from falls, collisions, obstacles, and other causes. By using Griffin Bike Park, you acknowledge and accept these inherent risks.
Griffin Bike Park is maintained according to best practices for extreme sports facilities, with a routine schedule for trail and feature maintenance and inspection. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, DIAL 911
When reporting an emergency, clearly state your location as GRIFFIN BIKE PARK, 10655 BONO ROAD.
For non-emergencies, contact the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department at (812) 462-3226.
Vigo County Parks and Recreation Commission
Violation of county, state, and federal laws within Griffin Bike Park is punishable by fines and/or imprisonment as per Vigo County Code, Chapter 58, Article I, Sections 58-1 to 58-12.
