Chicago’s Naked Bike Ride: Embrace Freedom and Pedal for Change

Get ready, Chicago! The date is set for this year’s exhilarating Naked Bike Ride, an event that’s much more than just a bike ride. It’s a vibrant celebration of bicycles, body positivity, and a powerful statement against our society’s reliance on polluting transportation. Stay tuned for upcoming details, but for now, get ready to join the movement, get vaccinated, and ride safely!

What is the World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR)?

The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is a global phenomenon, a clothing-optional event powered by people and fueled by important messages. It’s about highlighting the vulnerability of cyclists on our roads, advocating for a cleaner environment by reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, and promoting a positive body image for everyone. But beyond the important messages, it’s also an incredibly fun and liberating experience!

The dress code is “bare-as-you-dare,” meaning participants are encouraged to express themselves however they feel comfortable. From elaborate body paint to simple underwear, or even creative costumes, all forms of self-expression are welcome. While full frontal nudity carries some legal risk, many participants choose to go “all out” in the spirit of freedom and expression. In past events, skilled body painters have been on-site to help riders transform themselves before the ride, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Chicago’s WNBR has grown into a truly spectacular event. Past rides have attracted over 2000 cyclists and skaters, covering over ten miles through prominent city areas. Blessed with beautiful summer weather in a city that loves cycling, it’s become a massive rolling party, often culminating in a fantastic afterparty (details to be announced!). Participants frequently describe the experience as transformative, a powerful group experience that is both personally liberating and collectively uplifting.

Safety and Community Guidelines

Safety in Numbers: Ride as a large group, staying together behind the leader and within the main body of riders. Maintain a central position on the road to avoid bystanders. Consider dismounting your bike if needed to maintain control in crowded areas.

Bike Marshalls: Our Bike Marshalls, easily identifiable in yellow vests, are there to ensure everyone’s safety. Cooperate with them and communicate your needs to those around you. Support others who may call for help.

Important “DON’Ts” for a Safe and Respectful Ride:

  • DON’T get wasted: Stay clear-headed and aware of your surroundings.
  • DON’T lag behind or split off: Stick with the group for safety and solidarity.
  • DON’T enter lanes of oncoming traffic: Stay in designated lanes and follow marshall instructions.
  • DON’T swarm cars or antagonize the public or police: We are promoting positive messages, not confrontation.

Be prepared, stay alert, take care of yourself and each other, and most importantly, have an unforgettable time!
