Richardson Bike Mart, a long-standing and family-owned bicycle retailer in Texas, is evolving its brand to better represent its expanding presence across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. For nearly six decades, Richardson Bike Mart has been a cornerstone of the cycling community, but with locations now spanning beyond its original Richardson roots, the company has announced a significant name change. Moving forward, the beloved bike shop will simply be known as Bike Mart.
This strategic rebranding reflects the company’s growth and commitment to serving a wider customer base. While deeply proud of its heritage, the name “Richardson Bike Mart” no longer fully encompassed the retailer’s reach, which now includes multiple locations throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with a new store planned for Preston Hollow. Owner Ken “Woody” Smith explained that the decision to rebrand to Bike Mart was a natural step in the company’s evolution.
Founded in 1962 as “Mike Hall’s Bike Mart,” the business initially grew to three locations, including the Richardson store. In 1980, Jim Hoyt acquired the Richardson location, maintaining the name “Richardson Bike Mart.” The Hoyt family further expanded the business to three locations before selling it to Smith in 2012. Under Smith’s leadership, the company has continued to flourish, necessitating a brand identity that resonates with cyclists throughout the entire Dallas-Fort Worth region and beyond, especially considering the recent surge in both local and online customer growth.
“We wanted our name and logo to truly represent our dedication to serving cyclists everywhere,” Smith stated. “Our roots and history are incredibly important to us, and we are enthusiastic about the future as more people discover the joys of biking. Whether you need a first bike for a toddler, want to revive an old bike, are pursuing competitive cycling, or need an upgrade for a leisurely ride, Bike Mart is here to support every cyclist’s journey. We are grateful to be part of so many cycling stories and are excited to continue this journey as Bike Mart.”
The new Bike Mart logo subtly honors its origins with an “R” shaped bike symbol, ensuring that while the name evolves, the legacy of Richardson Bike Mart remains a vital part of the brand’s identity as it pedals into the future.
