Ride1up Prodigy V2 Electric Bike Review: A User’s Perspective

After three months of consistent riding, my wife and I are thoroughly impressed with our Ride1up Prodigy V2 electric bikes. We opted for two models: a step-through for my wife and a step-over for myself, and both have exceeded our expectations. Having previously enjoyed the smooth and efficient ride of mid-motor and Enviolo hub e-bikes during our travels in Vienna, we were specifically seeking these features in our own electric bikes. The Ride1up Prodigy V2 delivered on all fronts, particularly with its belt drive, Enviolo transmission, and the robust Brose mid-motor, which were key factors in our purchasing decision.

The German-engineered Brose motor in the Ride1up Electric Bike is a standout feature. Its quiet operation and responsive power delivery are perfectly calibrated to provide just the right amount of assistance, adapting seamlessly to varying terrains. The motor’s subtle hum is barely noticeable, often overshadowed by the sound of the Maxxis hybrid tires on the road surface. The robust frame of the Prodigy V2 inspires confidence and stability, making each ride feel secure. As someone who stands at 6′ 2″, bike fit is always a concern. While an adjustable handlebar mount would be ideal, the current setup is comfortable enough for my rides. I am considering a longer seat post to achieve a fully optimized riding position, as my current post is at its maximum extension, but even now, comfort hasn’t been compromised.

I did encounter a minor issue with the Tektro brake rotor on my front wheel. It seems slightly warped, causing a slight rub against the inside brake pad even after professional adjustments to the calipers, pads, and rim truing. This might lead to premature wear of the pads and rotor, something to keep an eye on. Another small issue, unique to my step-over model, is the battery cover. It occasionally struggles to latch securely and has detached once during a ride. Now, I diligently double-check its latch before every ride to prevent recurrence.

Despite these minor points, the overall experience with the Ride1up Prodigy V2 electric bike has been overwhelmingly positive. For anyone in the market for a high-quality mid-drive ebike, I wholeheartedly recommend considering the Prodigy V2. It blends German motor technology with user-friendly features into a compelling package.
