For those of us who grew up with the spirit of off-road adventure in our hearts, the word “scrambler” evokes a powerful image. Before BMX bikes dominated the scene, we transformed our trusty track bikes into scramblers, embracing the thrill of riding through mud and over rocks, mirroring the motorcycle scramblers we admired. That spirit of scrambling – of pushing boundaries and seeking adventure – is timeless. Inspired by this legacy, Stooge Cycles introduces the Scrambler, a bike designed to fuel your all-day adventures, whether you’re packing camping gear or just chasing the sunset.

The original Stooge frames gained unexpected popularity among bikepackers and adventure riders, prompting requests for a model tailored for longer journeys. The Scrambler answers this call, evolving from a 29+ adventure frameset concept from 2016 that was unfortunately sidelined. Years of innovation followed, leading to models like the MK3, Speedball, and the groundbreaking MK4. The MK4’s success paved the way to revisit and refine that earlier adventure design, resulting in the modern and highly capable Scrambler.

The Scrambler is built upon the foundation of a trail-ready rigid bike, but with enhanced versatility for adventure riding. Unlike previous Stooge frames, it boasts a wealth of mounts: rack and cage mounts on the biplane fork, dual triple cage mounts on the downtube, a seat tube bottle cage mount, rear rack mounts, and half rack mounts for saddlebag support. This is what we call a “radventure” bike – an adventure bike that doesn’t compromise on the “rad” factor. It’s equally at home tearing up a BMX track or embarking on a comfortable, multi-day ride into the horizon, soundtracked by your favorite tunes. The signature twin top tube design remains, now with increased frame bag capacity, thanks to a collaboration with Wizardworks for custom framebags.

Available in 18″ and 20″ sizes with effective top tube lengths of 610mm and 635mm respectively, the Scrambler features a slightly shorter geometry than the MK4 for a more upright and comfortable riding position. Combined with short chainstays, this design results in a bike that feels responsive and agile. The Scrambler prioritizes B+ wheelsize, offering a sweet spot of agility and capability that was missing from the Stooge lineup. A 67-degree head angle, slacker than previous Stooge frames including the Speedball, strikes a balance between stability and playful handling. For those preferring 29er wheels, the Scrambler is compatible, ideally paired with a high-volume front tire like the Duro Crux for optimal performance.
The target price for the Scrambler frameset is approximately £600, subject to exchange rate fluctuations, with an absolute upper limit of £625. Imagine the Scrambler built up with a super-fat front tire, Junker bars, a BMX stem, and classic canvas panniers – a reliable companion for solo adventures across challenging landscapes. The Stooge Cycles Scrambler is envisioned as the ultimate radventure bike, ready to redefine your riding experiences.
