As someone who’s owned and used electric kick scooters for a while, starting with a less-than-stellar Swagtron and then a Speedway V “luxury” model (which had its own set of issues but lasted five years), I recently took my first ride on the Solar P1 Pro. The weather finally cooperated, and let me tell you, I have some thoughts – all positive! I opted for the saddle with my scooter, finding it a much more comfortable riding style. Being 5’5″, it took a bit of adjusting to get the saddle height just right. I immediately noticed the Solar P1 Pro sits higher off the ground than my old Speedway V, which often struggled with even small curbs.
One of the first things I loved was the thumb throttle. After wrist problems, I wasn’t confident about a twist throttle, and the thumb throttle is a significant improvement over the finger throttle on my previous scooter. The acceleration is incredibly smooth, and the ride is remarkably quiet! My Speedway V was jerky and quite noisy, so this is a welcome change.
Living in an area where road maintenance seems to be a low priority, the off-road tires on the Solar P1 Pro are a game-changer. Street tires on my old scooter made for a bumpy and uncomfortable ride on these less-than-perfect roads. The wide display is easy to read, and I appreciate having the dual motor option, along with the ability to switch to single motor, front or rear, depending on my needs. The headlight is noticeably brighter and wider, a great safety feature. Features like cruise control and various riding modes add to the enjoyable experience. Even the little things are better – the turn signal is quiet, and the horn actually sounds like a car horn, not some comical frog!
Security is also a big plus. Password protection and a car alarm are features I really appreciate. The Speedway V eventually offered a fingerprint reader, but it was always out of stock, and honestly, I lost interest in it. The kickstand on the Solar P1 Pro is much more stable and feels much more robust, providing better support for the scooter. Overall, the Solar P1 Pro simply feels sturdier and more well-built than the Speedway V.
Honestly, calling the Solar P1 Pro an upgrade is an understatement, especially considering it was the same price as my previous scooters before any modifications! I am incredibly happy with this purchase. If I had one minor critique, it would be that a more detailed assembly manual, especially for models with saddles, would be helpful. However, Solar Motors customer service has been exceptionally patient and helpful in answering all my questions and clearing up my confusion.
