For years, Visma | Lease a Bike has leveraged the Foodcoach app as a crucial element in their riders’ performance strategy. This innovative nutrition application provided the team with a groundbreaking method to meticulously monitor and manage the precise dietary needs of their athletes. By 2024, the integration of TrainingPeaks further refined these nutritional strategies, tailoring plans to each rider’s specific exertion and physical state.
The Foodcoach app, initially exclusive to Visma Lease A Bike, has now expanded its reach. The Athlete’s FoodCoach recently announced in a press release a significant partnership with Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. This means the nutrition app, once solely utilized by the Dutch cycling team, will now also be implemented by Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, marking a shift in the competitive landscape of cycling nutrition.
Visma Lease a Bike team in action using Foodcoach app for cycling nutrition strategy
Visma Lease a Bike cyclists have benefited from the Foodcoach app’s precise nutritional planning.
While the Foodcoach app was already accessible to amateur cyclists through subscription, and Alpecin-Deceuninck had also explored developing a similar nutrition tool in 2023, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe’s adoption carries particular weight. This development may pose a slight setback for Visma | Lease a Bike as the Foodcoach concept was originally conceived by Asker Jeukendrup. Jeukendrup, a former key figure at Visma Lease a Bike, has since transitioned to Red Bull, adding an intriguing layer to this partnership. He now holds the position of Director of Sports Strategy at Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, bringing his intimate understanding of the Foodcoach app to his new team.
Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe is enthusiastic about integrating the Foodcoach app into their regimen. During a winter training camp in Mallorca, riders and team personnel underwent comprehensive training on the application. Robert Jan Koens, director of The Athlete’s FoodCoach, stated, “We are honored to bring this methodology to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. We are eager to further develop The Athlete’s FoodCoach in collaboration and extend this approach to other sports and future Red Bull ventures.”
Jeukendrup highlights the app’s crucial role in optimizing nutrition for peak performance and recovery within Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, a team with ambitions to reach the pinnacle of professional cycling, backed by Red Bull’s significant resources. “Nutrition has evolved into a pivotal element in elite sports, impacting not only performance but also recovery. Consistent, informed dietary choices every day accumulate to produce substantial improvements,” Jeukendrup explained, emphasizing the strategic advantage the Foodcoach app offers.
