What’s Included with Your Acadia Bike Rental?
We strive to provide a hassle-free Acadia bike rental experience. Basic and E-Bikes include a helmet and platform pedals. Road and Gravel Bikes come with a helmet, platform pedals, and a spare kit. Shimano SPD-SL 3-bolt and SPD 2-bolt clip-less pedals are available in limited quantities upon request.
For any mechanical issues during your ride, simply note your location and call our shop at 207-288-3886 for assistance. Don’t forget to bring your cycling shoes, apparel, and gloves – or purchase them at our store!
Acadia Bike Rental Policies and Essential Information
To ensure a smooth rental experience, please be aware of our policies:
- Rental Duration: Daily rentals must be returned 60 minutes before closing. Weekly rentals are due back 60 minutes before closing on the 7th day. Late returns are subject to fees.
- Cancellation Policy: We offer a 24-hour cancellation policy for a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours of pick-up are non-refundable.
- Required at Pick-Up: A credit card with matching photo ID and a working cell phone number are required. All members of the rental party must be present with IDs. The credit card used for online booking is preferred, or a new credit card with matching ID will be required.
- Inclement Weather: In case of severe weather requiring reservation cancellation, we will contact you via text/email and issue a full refund.
- Security Deposit (Specialty Bikes): Road & Gravel bike rentals require a security deposit of $500-$1,000, held on your credit card and released within 24 hours of bike return.
- Assistance During Ride: Call us at 207-288-3886 for help in case of issues during your ride.
Terms and Conditions & Rules for Acadia Bike Rentals
By renting with us, you agree to the following:
- Payment: We accept major credit cards for online payments. Online reservations are highly recommended.
- Requirements: A valid driver’s license, credit card, active cell phone, and signed online waiver are mandatory for all rentals.
- Responsibility: You are responsible for any damage to the rental equipment.
- Bike Handling: Do not attempt repairs or remove wheels if you are not comfortable doing so.
- Car Racks: We are not responsible for damage to your car or bikes caused by car racks.
- Bike Storage: Bikes are not permitted inside vehicles.
- Return Time: Bikes must be returned 60 minutes before closing on the due date to avoid late fees. Check in with staff upon return.
- E-Bike Age Restriction: Minimum age of 18 years to ride e-bikes without a parent (proof of age required). Ages 16-17 are permitted with parental supervision. Multi-day e-bike rentals must be returned daily, 60 minutes before closing.
- Helmet Law: Riders under 16 MUST wear a helmet (state law), including children in trailers.
- Trailer Safety: Children in trailers must be at least one year old and able to support their head while wearing a helmet. Maximum trailer weight is 100 pounds. Tag-a-longs are recommended for children ages 4-8 who can reach the pedals.
- Trailer Compatibility: Child and dog trailers ARE compatible with E-Bikes. Tag-a-longs are NOT compatible with E-Bikes. Trailers and tag-a-longs are NOT compatible with Gravel or Road bike rentals.
- Rules of the Road: Obey all traffic laws, ride single file with traffic, use hand signals, and yield to pedestrians and horses.
- Liability: Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop is not liable for bodily harm during bike use. Customers are responsible for bike damages, loss, or theft, and late return fees.
