Bicycle Safety Guidelines and Island Rules
To ensure a safe and enjoyable biking experience for everyone, please adhere to the following guidelines and island rules:
- Utilize Leisure Trails: For your safety and enjoyment, please use the designated leisure trails. Biking on streets where parallel bike paths exist is not permitted. Biking is prohibited on Kiawah Island Parkway, Governors Drive, and Ocean Course Drive.
- Designated Bike Parking: Island guests are required to park bikes at designated bike racks. Guests at rental homes should keep bikes out of sight from the road.
- Observe Traffic Signs: Always observe all stop signs on leisure trails and streets.
- Single File Riding: Where bike paths are not available, please ride single file on the road.
- Helmets Encouraged: Helmets are not mandatory but highly recommended, and complimentary helmets are available with your rental upon request.
- No Nighttime Biking: For your personal safety and to protect Kiawah’s wildlife, there are no lighted bike trails. Please refrain from riding after dark.
- Respect Wildlife: Protect Kiawah’s beach nesting and migrating birds by observing them from a distance. Maintain at least 300 feet away from groups of shorebirds and avoid biking through flocks of birds.
- Beach Boardwalks: Walk your bikes over boardwalks when accessing and leaving the beach.
