Discover Grove Street Bikes: Products and Passion
The story of Grove Street Bikes is deeply rooted in local passion. Ralph Sinisi, a Jersey City native from Journal Square, noticed a significant gap in bicycle shops when he moved downtown in 2005. Driven by the desire to serve his community, Ralph, alongside his business partner Rodney Morweiser, established Grove Street Bikes in 2008.
“Rodney and I have a history riding BMX bikes together,” Sinisi shared with Hoboken Girl. “He was the only mechanic I trusted with my bike. His meticulous work always made my bike feel exceptionally solid and well-assembled. When I conceived the idea of opening a bike shop, Rodney was the natural partner to bring on board.”

Grove Street Bikes prides itself on offering the widest array of bicycles in the vicinity. Their inventory boasts everything from men’s and women’s hybrid bikes perfect for city commuting, to high-performance road bikes, rugged mountain bikes, children’s bikes for all ages, and a growing selection of electric bikes. Beyond bikes, they also stock a comprehensive collection of cycling gear and accessories to enhance every ride.
Sinisi is also a strong advocate for bicycle safety and accessibility within the urban landscape. “We are committed to promoting bicycle advocacy to enhance rider safety amidst the busy traffic of our cities,” he explains. “We actively collaborate with Bike JC, an organization dedicated to improving rider safety and making our city as bike-friendly as possible.” Grove Street Bikes’ commitment extends to sponsoring the Bike JC Ward Tour since 2010, providing essential free starting line wrenching services and mobile support throughout the event.
For those looking for quality and performance, Grove Street Bikes carries reputable brands including Jamis, Masi, Aventon, and Haro. Notably, they are a primary retailer for Giant Bicycles, the world’s largest bicycle manufacturer, ensuring customers have access to top-tier bikes and technology.
“Our mission is to provide customers with the highest caliber of bicycles, electric bikes, accessories, rentals, and repair services,” Sinisi emphasizes. “We stand behind our products with a lifetime service guarantee. As long as you own a bike purchased from us, we will service it for free. Plus, being located in an Urban Enterprise Zone, we offer a reduced sales tax rate of just 3.5% on bikes and accessories.”

Overcoming Obstacles, Building Community Strength
Since its inception in 2008, Grove Street Bikes has navigated numerous challenges, demonstrating remarkable resilience through natural disasters and global disruptions. “In 2012, Hurricane Sandy flooded our store, requiring a complete rebuild,” Sinisi recounts. “Then, in 2016, a fire devastated our original location. We operated from several temporary spaces before finally settling into our current, fantastic location at 172 Columbus Drive.”
Following their relocation, the COVID-19 pandemic presented a new set of hurdles, severely impacting the bicycle supply chain and leading to inventory shortages. “Throughout 2021, our store faced periods with very limited stock. Despite these challenges, we remained committed to providing service, even when parts were scarce,” he explains. “Thankfully, the supply chain has since recovered, and we are thrilled to once again offer a comprehensive stock of beautiful bicycles and accessories.”
