Mini Bike Mini Chopper Troubleshooting: Getting Your Used Ride Started

Hey everyone, I’m new to the Mini Bike Mini Chopper scene and recently got my hands on a used APC Mini Chopper. It’s been sitting for a couple of years, and I’m excited to get it running and share the fun with my kids. I remember seeing these mini choppers at Pep Boys back in the day, but it seems like the company isn’t around anymore.

I’m diving into this as a bit of a hobby project and have a few questions for the community as I try to get it started. First off, I’m curious about the engine size – are these typically 43cc or 49cc engines in these mini bikes?

Another thing is the key. Unfortunately, mine didn’t come with one. Is there a way to bypass the key switch and wire it directly to get it running? Looking at the wires, I see two yellow, one green, and one black wire. If anyone knows the wiring diagram or how to reroute these to bypass the key, that would be a huge help! The wiring is all intact, so hopefully, it’s a straightforward bypass.

I’m also wondering about the pull start. Will the mini chopper start just by using the pull start, even without the key being in the ignition? Or is there some kind of kill switch connected to the key that I need to disconnect to get the pull start working?

Lastly, could someone clarify the choke position for starting? Should the choke be all the way up or all the way down when I’m trying to start it from cold?

Before taking these pictures, I’ve already given the mini chopper a good cleaning, removed most of the surface rust, pumped up the tires, lubed the chain, and replaced the spark plug and air filter. I want to make sure I’ve covered all the basics before I attempt to start it up. Any advice, tips, or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I’m looking forward to exploring the forums and seeing all the amazing things people are doing with their mini bikes and mini choppers. It’s awesome to see such a vibrant hobbyist community!
